In October, our Family Day Care team had the privilege of learning through culture with a workshop presented by Mat on the Aboriginal 8 Ways of Learning framework.
Mat put great care and research into preparing the session, including seeking permission from Elders to use “8 Ways: Aboriginal Pedagogy from Western NSW”, the only written source of the framework. The book was gifted to him with the understanding that its knowledge would be shared with others, a responsibility he has embraced with respect and commitment.
The workshop concluded with a collaborative activity where each educator contributed to a shared timeline, adding an Aboriginal symbol that held personal meaning for them. The finished artwork became not just a visual record of the day, but a symbol of learning together, sharing perspectives, and deepening understanding.
